Sunil Naraine became the Hero of the KKR vs DC match with his stunning performance with both bat and ball snatched the win from DC : Delhi Capitals seemed to win against Kolkata Knight Riders at their home ground Arun Jaitley Stadium, but Sunil Narine overturned the match with three big wickets and handed Delhi a defeat. This is Delhi‘s second consecutive defeat at home. This season, Delhi has not lost two consecutive matches. For the first time in this season Delhi has lost two consecutive matches.

Sunil Naraine again proved himself as the legendary player of T20–Sunil Narine has once again proved why he is called the legendary bowler of T20 cricket. Narine snatched victory from Delhi Capitals on the basis of his spin and defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by 14 runs. With this win, Kolkata has kept its playoff hopes alive.
Batting first, Kolkata scored 204 runs losing nine wickets in 20 overs. As long as Faf du Plessis and captain Akshar Patel were at the crease, Delhi‘s victory seemed certain, but Narine dismissed both of them and brought Kolkata back into the match and then gave them victory.
After this win, Kolkata has nine points in 10 matches after four wins and five losses. However, he is at number seven. Delhi has 12 points in 10 matches and is at number four after six wins and four losses.
Delhi Comeback after a poor start: Chasing the target of 205 runs, Delhi did not get a good start. Kolkata‘s Anukul Roy, who came to bowl the first over, dismissed Abhishek Porel on the second ball. Karun Nair could not do anything special in this match and was LBW on Vaibhav Arora‘s ball. Nair scored 15 runs off 13 balls. KL Rahul was expected to play a big innings once again, in which he failed. In his haste to take runs with du Plessis, he was run out. Seven runs off five balls from Rahul‘s bat.
Du Plessis and Akshar then took over the team and made a great partnership to return to Delhi. Du Plessis completed his half–century during this period, for which he faced 31 balls.
Naraine Pushed back Delhi to defeat
Delhi seemed to be going towards victory, but Narine pushed Delhi on the backfoot by giving two blows in the 14th over. He first dismissed Axar Patel. With this, his and Du Plessis‘s 76–run partnership was broken. In the same over, he dismissed Tristan Stubbs who could only score one run. In the 16th over, Narine dismissed Du Plessis and gave a big blow to Delhi. He scored 62 runs off 45 balls with the help of seven fours and two sixes.
After that, Varun dismissed Ashutosh Sharma on the second ball of the 18th over and ended Delhi‘s hopes of victory. On the next ball, he showed Mitchell Starc the way to the pavilion.
Kolkata team set back after Delhi spin attack
At one time when the Kolkata team was starting with a bang, it seemed that the score could cross 240–250, but Delhi‘s brilliant bowling, especially the spin attack, restricted the run–rate in the middle overs to 205. Winning the toss, Delhi captain Akshar Patel decided to bowl first, but the decision appeared to be wrong in the beginning.
Sunil Naraine and Gurbaz made a stunning start
Openers Sunil Narine and Rahmanullah Gurbaz batted aggressively for Kolkata. Both of them smashed the Delhi bowlers in the powerplay and gave the team 79 runs in 6 overs. As soon as Naren came, he broke the back of Delhi‘s bowling by playing big shots. However, Mitchell Starc dismissed Gurbaz on a personal score of 26 runs to give Delhi the first breakthrough.
Starc was quite expensive in this match
Starc proved to be expensive in this match. He leaked 35 runs in his three overs. However, he definitely gave the team a breakthrough by taking the wicket of Gurbaz. After this, in 6.4 overs, young spinner Vipraj Nigam dismissed Naren for 39 runs and put a brake on Kolkata‘s pace. After Naren‘s dismissal, the run–rate slowed down a bit, but the middle order took over the innings and brought the team to 200. Then Axar gave Rahane LBW out to give the team a third success. After these two wickets, Delhi‘s bowling came to life and there was pressure on Kolkata in the last over.
In the last 5 overs, Delhi conceded only 42 runs which was an indication that Delhi made a comeback in time. It will be interesting to see if Delhi‘s batting will be able to chase down 206 runs or the Kolkata bowlers will successfully defend this score.
